Disconnect or pause a mailbox
Disconnecting a mailbox pauses syncing and revokes Chiefy’s access to it. Your already-synced conversations stay in Chiefy, and you can reconnect the mailbox at any time. Disconnecting is a pause, not a delete.
Rolling out. Connecting additional mailboxes is currently available to a limited set of accounts while we roll it out. If you don’t see these options yet, they’re on the way.
When you no longer want Chiefy working with one of your connected mailboxes, you can disconnect it. Disconnecting stops Chiefy from syncing that mailbox and revokes its access — but it keeps everything Chiefy already synced, so your conversation history is still there. Because it is reversible, think of it as pausing the mailbox rather than removing it.
Before you start
Only secondary mailboxes can be disconnected. Your sign-in mailbox — the one you use to log in to Chiefy — is your account identity and can’t be removed; it shows a quiet “Used to sign in” note and has no disconnect option. To stop syncing the mailbox you sign in with, you’d need to manage the account itself rather than disconnect it here.

Confirm
A confirmation dialog appears: Disconnect this mailbox? It explains that Chiefy stops syncing the mailbox, your already-synced emails stay, and you can reconnect anytime. Select Disconnect to confirm, or Cancel to keep it connected.
What happens after you disconnect
Once a mailbox is disconnected, Chiefy revokes its access and:
- No new emails sync from that mailbox.
- It no longer appears in your search results.
- Chiefy doesn’t work on its new messages while it’s paused.
Your previously synced conversations from that mailbox stay in Chiefy, so your history isn’t lost.
The mailbox’s row updates to show a Disconnected status. To keep your list tidy, disconnected mailboxes are tucked into a collapsible Disconnected (N) group, which is hidden by default — expand it whenever you want to see or reconnect them.
Reconnect a mailbox
You can bring a disconnected mailbox back at any time.
-
Find the disconnected mailbox
In Connected Mailboxes, expand the Disconnected (N) group to see paused mailboxes.
-
Select Reconnect
On the mailbox row, select Reconnect and sign in to re-authorize Chiefy’s access.
Reconnecting resumes syncing for that mailbox from that point forward. Emails that arrived while the mailbox was paused aren’t backfilled.

Frequently asked
Does disconnecting delete my emails? No. Disconnecting pauses syncing and revokes access; your already-synced conversations stay in Chiefy. There’s no option to permanently delete a mailbox’s synced data — it’s retained so you can reconnect later.
Can I disconnect my sign-in mailbox? No. The mailbox you sign in with is your account identity, so it can’t be disconnected here.
Is disconnecting permanent? No — it’s reversible. Reconnect the mailbox whenever you’re ready and Chiefy picks back up.
